We are seeking a dependable, hardworking, and self-motivated Ranch Hand to join our South Texas ranch operation. The ideal candidate will have experience working on a cattle ranch and be comfortable performing a wide range of duties, including livestock care, equipment operation, fence maintenance, and general ranch upkeep.
This position requires an individual who enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions and can work independently with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Livestock Management
Assist with daily care and management of cattle.
Check livestock health and report injuries, illnesses, or unusual behavior.
Assist with gathering, sorting, working, loading, and transporting cattle.
Feed and water livestock as needed.
Assist with calving operations and basic animal health treatments.
Ranch Maintenance:
Build, repair, and maintain fences, gates, corrals, and cattle pens.
Maintain roads, water systems, troughs, and ranch infrastructure.
Perform brush control and general property maintenance.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of barns, shops, and work areas.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
Safely operate tractors, skid steers, UTVs, pickups, trailers, and other ranch equipment.
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on ranch vehicles and equipment.
Identify and report equipment issues requiring major repairs.
Land and Wildlife Management:
Assist with wildlife habitat improvements and supplemental feeding programs.
Monitor ranch property for trespassing, damaged fences, or other security concerns.
Assist with deer management, game cameras, feeders, and hunting operations as needed.
Qualifications:
Previous ranch, agricultural, or livestock experience preferred.
Experience handling cattle and horseback riding preferred.
Ability to safely operate ranch equipment and machinery.
Basic mechanical and welding skills are highly desirable.
Valid driver's license required;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must be trustworthy, dependable, and possess a strong work ethic.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
Ability to work outdoors year-round in South Texas weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and rain.
Ability to walk uneven terrain and work extended hours during busy seasons.
Work Schedule:
Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, with weekend, holiday, and after-hours work required as ranch operations dictate.
Flexibility during calving, shipping, and hunting seasons is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with low-stress cattle handling techniques.
Welding and fabrication experience.
Mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience.
Experience operating heavy equipment.
Knowledge of wildlife and habitat management practices.
Spanish-speaking ability is a plus.
